After work I decided to try a new pond just a few miles away. I got my little boat hooked up and loaded down. I love these small ponds that don't have much bank fishing available. If they don't have an actual boat ramp that's even better because then you know they aren't fished much and haven't seen a lot of the techniques I enjoy fishing.

It was early afternoon and about 90 degrees out but a brief cooler rain shower had just moved through. I thought maybe the fresh water from the rain would stir up some activity. And I was correct. During the rain and for about an hour afterward I caught some fish. Nothing real big about 11 or 12 inch largemouth. I threw a crank bait without much luck so I went to my go to football jig with a creature soft bait and caught about five fish in all.
Even though it rained the fish were still pretty lathargic. It was very difficult to detect a bite. In fact I pulled up many fish to the boat without setting the hook because I did t realize I had even had a bite, only to watch the fish spit the jig out when it saw me and the boat.

Even though I dint catch a large number of bass or anything to call home about. It was a decent day for an afternoon in the middle of the summer. I have always had pretty good luck with a jig it is definitely a good go to lure when fishing a new area. It can get a bite anytime of the year in any type of habita, which makes it a great lure for lcating where fish might be in a new body of water.
